How to deal with loneliness

Don’t be afraid of this period in your life. This is the time when you can really work on yourself without any distractions and find new happiness in life. Everything works in seasons and happens for a reason. Looking back on my period of loneliness, it felt like it was lasting forever. It was certainly a frustrating time in my life but now I realise that if I had applied most of the following sooner, it would have definitely eased the experience and made it a lot more bearable. 

1. Find new hobbies

Gardening, exploring the great outdoors: signing yourself up to outdoor activities such as National Trust and museum memberships etc. Is not only a great way to get out of the house and explore, but also a chance to meet new people and share common interests

2. Treat yourself

Just because you feel no one is around, doesn’t me you shouldn’t receive treats. Take yourself out, treat yourself to a nice meal, go to a West End show

3. Take care of yourself

Whether that’s with a spa or eating well, taking care of yourself is important during this time. It’s also a great proactive way of getting ready for the next stage in your life. You’re not always going to be lonely, therefore changing your mindset will help you get to the next stage quickly and with the right frame of mind. 

4. Work on your spiritual growth

During my time of loneliness I made sure I didn’t distance myself from God, which sometimes, can be the case when things are going a certain way in your life. Speaking to Him about how I was feeling and admiring I needed direction helped me to stay focused and knowing that He was working on my behalf really gave me peace of mind.

5. Volunteer

There’s nothing more rewarding than giving back, knowing that you have affected someone else’s life positively. It’ll also keep you busy so that you are not concentrating on your loneliness or whatever it is that is keeping you down.
